ERIC is a product of the U.S. Department of Education.   It is the combined electronic database of Current Journals in Education (CJIE) and Resources in Education (RIE).  The Jack Tarver Library collects the complete ERIC microfiche set which is housed on the first floor.  ERIC is available through GALILEO.

Education Abstracts is an abstracting tool from the Wilson Publishing Company that covers about 700 journals on education and related disciplines.  It is available through GALILEO.

PsycInfo is an electronic database produced by the American Psychological Association.  It is available via GALILEO

Online Education

This site is a comprehensive listing of online courses offered by accredited institutions. The information is reliable and kept current. If you are looking for a particular course or degree program on the web this is a good place to start.

Yahoo! Education: Distance Learning

Yahoo! directory listing for distance learning. The listing has a lot of useful sites with areas for online teaching, conferences, colleges and universities, and others. There are more than a few commercial sites that have little useful information so you have to do some hunting to get the good sites.

EDUCAUSE

EDUCAUSE is the new combined organization of EDUCOM and CAUSE. This organization is interested in information technology at all levels of higher education and both administrative and academic computing. Especially important are EDUCAUSE’s initiatives to promote Internet access throughout the education community.

United State Distance Learning Association

The United States Distance Learning Association is a nonprofit association formed in1987. The association's purpose is to promote the development and application of distance learning for education and training.

Southern Regional Education Board

This link for the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) is a virtual marketplace for electronically delivered courses and programs from colleges and universities from the South. The sixteen member states are Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.

(VIVA) Virtual Library of Virginia

Florida Distance Learning Reference & Referal Center

Georgia Library Learning Online (GALILEO)

GALILEO was one of the first statewide web-based bibliographic database projects. It is still the most comprehensive collection.

Online Computer Library Center (OCLC)
(http://www.oclc.org)

OCLC is a nonprofit corporation that owns the largest collective online catalog in the world. The OCLC database includes information on the holdings of more than 3,000 libraries from around the world. The database is the base for most electronic InterLibrary loan transactions in the United States and Canada. OCLC also provides the FirstSearch bibliographic database service and the database search engine used by GALILEO (see above).

U.S. Department of Education National Center for Educational Statistics

The Department of Education’s National Center for Educational Statistics is the best place to go for current statistics on distance learning programs, students, and services. The Digest of Educational Statistics and the publication Distance Education in Higher Education Institutions are both available over the web.

University of Illinois Digital Library Initiative

Describes the Digital Library Project at the University of Illinois with links to other large digital library initiatives around the U.S.
